History of the Race TeamThe
AA’s innovative Racing team was set up in 2000 by The AA’s
Director of Road Services (at that time, Peter Tyer ) The concept was
and still is to provide AA Patrols the platform to shop-window their
skills as mechanics and to provide the AA and it’s business partners a
unique hospitality opportunity for clients and business colleagues to
enjoy Motor Racing in it’s most evocative form. The 1970’s were in many
respects the heyday for Motorsport with names like, Graham Hill, Jochen
Rindt, Jackie Stewart, Ronnie Peterson, and many others mixed both
Formula 1 and Formula 2 racing programmes. These were the days before
mega budgets changes the face of top classmotosport for ever…

In
it’s short period within the International Historic Motorsport arena
the team has had considerable success. In 2002 AA Driver John Dunham
became F2 series Class B champion and in 2003 Peter Shaw followed
up by winning the Atlantic class championship in the
International F2 trophy, with class wins in Monza, Spa Francorchamps,
and numerous other podium placings.
In 2004 the team focussed on UK based meetings and entered the HSCC’c
fantastic Derek Bell series for historic single seater machinery. Some
success followed with class victory at Silverstone and other
podium places during the season.

During
the past 5 years some members of the team have changed and each person
has made a superb contribution. A fact that we were particularly proud
of is that in our first International Formula 2 season the team had the
highest finishing rate in the class which was a testament to the good
work of the teams technicians.
The AA Team have undergone training to bring them “up to speed” in the
specialised world of Formula 2 cars and have risen to the challenge
with great enthusiasm.

All
the team give their personal time freely to the project because of a
mutual enthusiasm for Historic Motorsport and also we’re sure because
of the great atmosphere and camaraderie in the team. The AA people
involved come from many different parts of the organisation all working
for the common goal of winning races and enjoying their sport!
