www.QV500.com - De Tomaso Pantera GT5S Part 2: Pantera GT5S Targa

Carrozzeria Pavesi in Milan has long been regarded one of Italy's premier coachbuilders. Most of the firms work in the 1980's centred around remanufacturing fixed-head Ferrari's and De Tomaso's into open-top configurations. Like the Longchamp Spyder which was an officially sanctioned model in its own right, your Pantera GT5S could be despatched from the factory in Modena to be turned into a Targa. This was no ordinary roof chop though, Pavesi extensively reinforcing the floorpan, bulkhead, sills, windscreen and door gussets. Also, the roof had to be modified in order to accomodate the removeable targa top and there was a slight reduction in headroom as a result.

To have your Pantera transformed into a Targa added around 30% to the factory price for a standard GT5S and consequently only a handful were made. It seems a dozen were built new and a further six sent to Pavesi after delivery making this perhaps the most sought after incarnation of Dallara's original Pantera concept.
