Imported into the USA as factory parts in 1996 and built up by De Tomaso dealer and restorer, Steve Wilkinson. With support from De Tomaso, Wilkinson’s was trying to legalise the Guara for the US market. His firm prepared the car to meet federal emissions regulations which was relatively straightforward as there were already catalytic converters installed. Before the Guara could undergo stringent Department of Transportation crash testing, Wilkinson lost support from Italy thus ending any further attempts to legalize the car in the United States. The car was never designated a chassis number.
