1972 Monza 1000km: 1st in class

We are pleased to be able to present on behalf of its owner this sensational factory built Pantera Gr.4. The earliest surviving example from a batch of 14, chassis 2342 was sold new to Aldo Valtellina and raced successfully throughout 1972 and '73. Results inlcuded:

  • 1972 Monza 1000km - 5th OA, 1st in class
  • 1972 Monza Coppa GT - 2nd OA, 2nd in class
  • 1972 Coppa Bruno Carotti Hillclimb - 7th OA, 1st in class
  • 1972 Valle Camonica Hillclimb - 7th OA, 1st in class
  • 1972 Monza 4 Hours - 4th OA, 4th in class
  • 1972 Paris 1000km - DNF
  • 1973 Valle Camonica Hillclimb - 2nd in class

1972 Monza Coppa Gran Turismo Speciale: 2nd in class

1974 Vallelunga 2 Hours: 1st in class

For 1974 chassis 2342 was sold to Marcello Gallo who continued to race it over the course of the next two years, most notably winning his class at the Imola 1000km that year. By the time of 1974's Vallelunga 2 Hour race, he had repainted 2342 in the distinctive tricolour livery it wears today. Results during his tenure included:

  • 1974 Monza 1000km - DNQ
  • 1974 Imola 1000km - 11th OA, 1st in class
  • 1974 Mugello Trofeo - 4th in class
  • 1974 Vallelunga 2 Hours - 1st OA, 1st in class
  • 1975 Targa Florio - DNF
  • 1975 Mugello - 4th in class

At the end of the 1975 season, chassis 2342 was retired from serious competition and in 1979 it was sold to a US collector who retained it until 1995. At this time it was sold to Alan Foster and Bill Hohnhorst who in turn sold it to Walter Dethier. The current Belgian owner acquired the car in 2006 and immediately embarked on an extensive refurbishment programme in preparation for that years Le Mans Classic. Since then, chassis 2342 has been kept on the button and used in a number of track sessions. More than capable of outperforming Porsche's venerable 911 RSR and the Ferrari Daytona Competizione, De Tomaso's Pantera Gr.4 is perhaps the ultimate GT racing car from the early 1970's. Of the 13 genuine factory built Gr.4 Pantera's, none has a better record in top flight endurance racing than chassis 2342. It is sold with a small spares package.
