Becuase the 70P was originally conceptualised as a Can-Am car, it did not conform to FIA sports car regulations and therefore could not be raced in Europe. For this reason, it was re-configured as the Sport 5000 and fitted with new bodywork housing wider wheels, front turn signal lights and a windshield wiper. The rear wheel spats were removed. Fuel tanks and exhaust system were also now installed.

Kept at the factory until 2004.

Note: some of the original but incomplete 'first version' 70P bodywork (removed in 1966) was salvaged from the factory and used for another car that appeared in 2006. In July 2006 this car was advertised as for sale by VDV Grant on ClassicDriver.com. Click here for more information.
