The exclusive 250 GT Europa Berlinetta's were constructed in two basic styles, all with lightweight aluminium bodies by Pinin Farina. Seven were built in total, four cars having been clothed with Pinin Farina's familiar design already used for Mille Miglia Berlinetta's, the remaining three with coachwork combining the very best elements of Pinin Farina's period show cars. Of these three, the first and third examples built were fairly similar in execution, 0393 GT and 0425 GT only really differing externally in terms of their rear wing and grille treatments. |
The second in this trio was more substantially different though, the bodywork of 0403 GT having featured a unique rear buttress arrangement and re-profiled tail. All three were quite beautifully detailed with their exquisite design treatments and stylised trimmings, if any finer looking cars were made that decade, we haven't found them. But it wasn't only the bodywork and interiors of these bespoke show cars that set them apart, for the last two (0403 and 0425) were constructed on a shortened 2480mm wheelbase chassis, pre-dating that of the 250 Tour de France. 0403, meanwhile, also made use of an early Tipo 128 engine benefitting from stronger camshafts and main points than the existing Tipo 112. The last of Pinin Farina's Mille Miglia-style Europa's also got a 2480mm wheelbase chassis, but these four cars are currently under research and their complete histories will be published before long. |
