A few particularly interesting Cabriolet's were produced during the Series II era, the first of which, chassis 1737 GT, was Pinin Farinas attempt at a short wheelbase Spyder. This vehicle rode a very special Tipo 539 chassis that was to be used on the forthcoming SWB California. Thus, it was actually the first open-topped Ferrari constructed on this competition spec frame and went on to star at the Geneva Salon during March of 1960. |
1737 GT visually owed more to the Series I Cabriolet and 400 Superamerica's than any Series II. The engine was a full blown Competizione specification Tipo 168 unit producing around 280bhp and combined with the lightweight aluminium bodywork, this very special roadster would have been more than a match for almost any California Spyder. However, 1737 GT was never intended for competition use, being trimmed to a level of luxury on a par with both Series I and II Cabriolet's. Completed and fully detailed after the salon, this Spyder Speciale was consequently sold with a bespoke hardtop that featured a removable sunroof. Some other clients also ordered hardtops with special order sunroofs (chassis 2489 GT for example) but these are ultra rare. At least three more Speciale's were constructed, 1925 GT featuring special bodywork and a unique brushed alloy hardtop whilst 3469 GT received a design largely similar to that of the aforementioned 1737. A handful of additional cars with factory modifications may also exist, but much mystery surrounds closed headlight cars a large number having been altered at the request of their owners after the sixties. |

Seven PF Cabriolet's were re-bodied with covered headlights during the mid sixties, these cars prepared in Italy at the behest of Tom Meade, an American who had already ordered a number of one-off Ferrari's. Little is currently known about them, only one, chassis 2393 GT, having surfaced lately. With its covered headlights, Kamm tail and cockpit modifications, this car was clearly influenced by Pininfarina's five 330 GTC Speciale's from 1967. Finally, the chassis numbers of all these variants are indexed below along with their body configurations. |
