Scaglietti Berlinetta chassis 0879 GT
April 1957 saw Ferrari introduce their third distinct incarnation of the Tour de France Berlinetta, once more the emphasis being on evolution rather than revolution. Set-up wise, the chassis and engines found in most Series III cars were the latest Tipo 508 C and 128 C items, these bringing with them several minor improvements. Again though it was the new Scaglietti bodywork that garnere attracted much interest. The most obvious changes took place at the front where Series III cars featured headlights set further back in the wing and housed underneath contoured Plexiglass covers.

Each wheelarch was subtly flared to accommodate larger wheels and tyres, the rear wings becoming more fin-like than preceding models. The 14 cabin ventilation louvres located on the cockpit sail panels of Series II Tour de France Berlinetta's were replaced by a more simple, three vent arrangement, other detail alterations coming in the form of a new triple-louvred engine ventilation bank located behind each front wheelarch (this had previously been a six-hole matrix) and an external Monza quick fuel filler located on the drivers side (just beneath the rear windscreen). 15 examples of the Series III 250 GT Berlinetta were constructed between the spring of 1957 and March 1958, Scaglietti managing to produce one of the all-time great designs for this third batch of cars. Their chassis numbers are listed below:
