1959 was the final year for Ferrari's 250 GT Berlinetta on the Tipo 508 long wheelbase chassis. These Series V's were the last Tour de France models made and came in a batch of 11 between March and July of 1959. However, they were subsequently joined by seven Interim Berlinetta's that combined the Tipo 508 chassis with prototype bodywork for the forthcoming short wheelbase Berlinetta. Series V Tour de France' all used D-spec chassis and engine combo's, the Tipo 128 D motors coming in varying states of tune and typically producing between 250 and 260bhp. The most striking feature to debut on these last Berlinetta's though was a new open headlight nose, eight of the ten Scaglietti Series V's being completed as such. The arrival of an open headlight version was dictated not by choice on the part of Ferrari or Scaglietti, but as a consequence of newly introduced Italian lighting legislation that prohibited the use of covered headlights. Although a little less aesthetically pleasing than the previous covered headlight design, these new versions undoubtedly had a charm all of their own. The remaining two cars bodied by Scaglietti received shells similar to 1958's Series IV, the eleventh and final car completed, chassis 1367 GT, having been clothed by Zagato.
