www.QV500.com - Ferrari 275 Part 6: 275 GTB/C Series I Short Nose

275 GTB/C Series I chassis 7437 GT

Whereas Ferrari's three GTB/C Speciale's had been a fundamental departure from the series production 275 GTB, the firms next batch of factory racers, the Series I GTB/C's, were much more closely related to their road going brethren. Featuring specially prepared engines with high lift camshafts and six twin choke Weber 49 DCN/3 carburettors, these specially prepared Tipo 213 powerplants were good for around 290bhp. Meanwhile, lightweight aluminium bodywork was fabricated by Scaglietti in Modena and incorporated a number of competition-inspired details that were unique to these cars.

There were banks of three vertical lourves carved out from behind each rear wheelarch, the majority also receiving LM-style faired in driving lights although some did retain standard circular indicator lenses. Each car got a Monza quick fuel-filler cap and long-range fuel tank, the business-like cabins generally having been trimmed to a surprisingly high level. Only ten Series I Short Nose 275 GTB Competizione's were built between February and September of 1965, few being used in serious competition. Chassis numbers and first owners are listed below but as you will see, little is known of the early history for chassis's 7421 and 7555. Any forthcoming information would be appreciated.
