For 1966, Ferrari introduced a competition-spec version of the Long Nose 275 GTB, Series II GTB/C's featuring a number of developments over their Short Nose predecessors. They used a drilled lightweight Tipo 590A chassis but retained the Tipo 213 engine which was mistakenly homologated with three rather than six-carburettors. This costly error was partially redressed by using new Weber 40 DF13 carburettors that restored power to over 300bhp at 7500rpm. As with the Speciale's, dry sump lubrication was used while compression got increased to 9.3:1 and hot 130 camshafts fitted. |
Lightweight magnesium alloy engine parts were used extensively throughout, Scaglietti producing the bodies in aluminium 50% thinner than that which could be optionally specified on production GTB's. Further weight saving measures saw decorative bumpers attached to the body as opposed to the chassis whilst all glass, save the windscreen, was replaced with lightweight Plexiglas. Subtly flared wings were almost impossible to spot but had been necessitated when homologation was approved for the use of taller and wider 7 x 15-inch RW4010 Borrani wire wheels at the front and RW4011's at the rear. Only 12 Series II GTB/C's were constructed, the chassis numbers of which are listed below: 275 GTB/C Series II Long Nose Chassis Index |
