Famed Modenese coachbuilders Neri and Bonacini (Nembo) also built a special design around 400 GT underpinnings. Completed in 1966 at the behest of an American customer who wanted to go racing, the mystery US buyer abandoned taking delivery after the project ran into homologation problems. Christened 'Monza 400', Nembo's low slung sports car was more akin to Ferrari's rakish berlinetta's than the subdued lines of Touring-bodied Lamborghini GT's. Nevertheless, it was a particuarly handsome looking thing and a true one-off. |
| Chassis 01030 was displayed just once, at the 1967 Barcelona Motor Show where it was bought off the stand by a wealthy Spanish enthusiast who wasn't willing to join the four-month waiting list for a new Miura. During the next three years the car racked up just over 7000km before it was bricked up at the back of its owners garage. Not seen or heard of until 1996 when the owner died, it was discovered by Simon Kidston of Bonhams auctioneers. Kidston had to wait another nine years before the family decided to part with 03010, Bonhams selling the car complete with aftermarket 'bull-bars' at Olympia, London in late 2005. |
