Between late 1997 and early 1998, Lamborghini produced a handful of GT2 Diablo's with a view to racing in the endurance class of the same name. However, with Audi's arrival, the project was scrapped due to spiralling development costs. Consequently, very little is presently known about these machines. The Franch Dams team ran a GT2 at Nogaro and Spa in the FFSA Championship, pole position on its debut illustrating the cars potential. Said to feature 600bhp plus, 6-litre engines, Lamborghini would almost certainly have used the GT2 mules as R&D test beds for subsequent 6-litre models.
