www.QV500.com - Lamborghini Urraco Part 3: P200 & PIII |
![]() |
Lamborghini's problems caused by the lack of commerical success for the Urraco continued when it became clear Stanzani's 3-litre V8 was prohibitively expensive to modify for meeting North American emissions legislation. After all this hard work, a development of the original Urraco's L240 unit was eventually forced into service for the US market. Designated PIII, it was strangled by emissions equipment and struggled to reach an embarrassingly low 180bhp, a figure hardly in keeping with Lamborghini's reputation and North American customers quickly realised as much. |
Needless to say, after a handful of PIII's were constructed, the Urraco played no further part in the US scene. Around the same time, Stanzani developed an Italian tax break Urraco, a two-litre 182bhp version that was simply a de-bored 1995 cc L240 constructed to avoid the 30% tax penalties imposed on vehicles with an engine capacity higher than two litres. Only 66 were sold, all left-hand drive. |
